Hanafuda Koi-Koi is a traditional Japanese card game.
This is the English-language version of the game Hanafuda Koi-Koi.
Koi-Koi is a popular Japanese card game for two players, played using a Hanafuda deck and representing one of the classic ways to play with these traditional Japanese cards.
The goal is to be the first to create specific card combinations. The phrase "koi-koi," meaning "come on" in Japanese, is called out by a player who chooses to continue the round in hopes of earning more points.
The objective is to form special combinations known as "yaku" from the cards in your point pile. Players collect cards into their point pile by matching cards from their hand, or drawn from the deck, with cards on the table. After forming a yaku, a player may stop to secure their points or risk continuing (declaring "koi-koi") to build further yaku for a higher score. While individual card point values do not directly contribute to the final score, they are useful for evaluating a card's potential in completing yaku.
