DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed
Filming has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El. DC Studios head James Gunn shared the news on Bluesky, along with a first-look image of Alcock in her director's chair.
Gunn expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting director Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) and Alcock's talent. The film is based on Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel of the same name.
The graphic novel, a standalone story nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award, centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking revenge for her father's murder. Supergirl becomes unexpectedly involved in her quest for justice against the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Fans unfamiliar with the source material are encouraged to check it out.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further casting announcements confirm David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and the previously announced Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the rebooted DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer. Other upcoming DC projects include The Batman Part II (its connection to the new DC Universe remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
