Anime-Inspired Puzzle Game Sakamoto Days Set for Japan-Only Release

  • Sakamoto Days is a hotly-anticipated anime set to release soon
  • It's also getting its own mobile game around the same time of launch
  • Mixing battling, character-collection and match-three, it's an eclectic mix of content

If you're a follower of anime news, by now you may know of the upcoming release of the Sakamoto Days anime on Netflix. This cult-hit series is also set to receive its own mobile game in the form of Sakamoto Days Dangerous Puzzle, according to the anime-mad folks over at Crunchyroll.

Even if you're not a fan of anime, Sakamoto Days Dangerous Puzzle looks set to be jam-packed with content. Featuring not just match-three gameplay, but also storefront simulation (which fits the plot of the series) battling mechanics and the ability to recruit a variety of characters from throughout the series.

Sakamoto Days itself focused on the titular Sakamoto, a retired assassin who left a life of crime to start a family, and now works a regular 9-5 in a convenience store. However, the underworld isn't exactly something you walk away from, and alongside his new partner Shin, Sakamoto shows that getting a little out of shape hasn't diminished his near-superhuman skills.

Sakamoto Days is one of those rare series that has built a bit of a cult following ahead of a proper anime release. So it's very interesting to see that, even ahead of release, it's also getting a mobile release too! Even more so this seems to be a pretty eclectic mix of both more familiar fare, such as character-collection and battling, alongside something a little more suited for a wider audience, such as match-three puzzles.

It also raises a very interesting question about how Japanese anime and manga intertwine with mobile, especially considering some major multimedia franchises like Uma Musume got their start on smartphones.

Whether you love it or loathe it, anime has taken the world by storm. And we're no exception! Check out our list of the top 15 best anime mobile games to find those based on existing series, or just boasting that familiar animesque style!
