Assassin's Creed Shadows: March 20, 2025 Release Date Confirmed
Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th launch, this latest postponement adds a further five weeks to the development timeline.
The publisher cites the need to incorporate player feedback as the primary reason for the delay. This differs from the previous three-month delay announced in September 2024, which stemmed from internal development challenges related to historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a polished and immersive experience, facilitated by ongoing player communication. Both delays, however, share the common goal of providing the development team additional time for refinement and polishing.
Key Dates:
- Original Release Date: November 15, 2024
- First Delay: February 14, 2025
- Final Release Date: March 20, 2025
The September delay resulted in pre-order refunds and the offer of free access to the game's first expansion for future pre-orders. Ubisoft has yet to announce similar compensation for this latest shift. The shorter delay may mitigate potential player backlash compared to the previous three-month postponement.
This additional development time could also be linked to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices. The company, while still a major player in the gaming industry, experienced record losses in its 2023 fiscal year. This investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and the incorporation of fan feedback in Assassin's Creed Shadows may reflect this initiative.
