It’s official: fans of the beloved *Avatar: The Last Airbender* series have something exciting to look forward to. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios have announced a new animated series titled *Avatar: Seven Havens* to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original series. This new venture comes from the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and promises to expand the Avatar universe in a thrilling new direction.
*Avatar: Seven Havens* will be a 26-episode, 2D animated series centered around a young Earthbender who is revealed to be the next Avatar after Korra. According to a press release from Nickelodeon, the series is set in a world "shattered by a devastating cataclysm." In this perilous new era, the young Earthbender must navigate a world where being the Avatar marks her as a potential destroyer, rather than a savior. Pursued by both human and spirit foes, she and her long-lost twin embark on a quest to uncover their mysterious origins and prevent the collapse of the Seven Havens, the last bastions of civilization.
DiMartino and Konietzko expressed their excitement about this new chapter in the Avatar saga, stating, "When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters."
The series will be divided into two seasons, each consisting of 13 episodes. Alongside DiMartino and Konietzko, the project will be co-created with executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. While no casting announcements have been made yet, anticipation is already building for this fresh take on the Avatar world.
*Avatar: Seven Havens* marks the first mainline TV series from Avatar Studios, which is also developing a full-length animated movie set to premiere in theaters on January 30, 2026. The movie will follow an adult Aang on a new adventure, further expanding the rich tapestry of the Avatar universe.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary, Avatar Studios is also launching a range of new books, comics, concerts, toys, and a game on Roblox, ensuring that fans have plenty of ways to engage with and celebrate this iconic franchise.
