Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement of the impending shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, coinciding ironically with the iconic game's 45th anniversary celebration. This version of PAC-MAN, which was launched over a decade ago and was formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases have been discontinued since April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. The community has expressed disappointment over the decision to completely shut down the game rather than converting it to an offline mode, which many believe would still generate revenue and satisfy players.
PAC-MAN Mobile was not just about nostalgia. Alongside the beloved 8-bit arcade mode, it introduced a Story Mode filled with original mazes, an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events offering exclusive skins, and a Tournament Mode featuring weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Additionally, the game provided a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, and even the joystick, enhancing the visual experience.
The Reason
The decision to shut down the game might stem from the accumulation of bugs and issues that have plagued the game in recent years. Despite a strong start when it first launched on Android, where players were enthusiastically competing for high scores and leaderboard positions, the game's quality deteriorated over time.
If you're keen on experiencing PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its closure, you can still download it from the Google Play Store. Don't miss out on this final chance to relive the fun.
