Monster Hunter Wilds simplifies many series mechanics, making monster tracking largely unnecessary. However, there's one exception: the Black Flame. Here's how to find it.
Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds
Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, Chapter 3 introduces the Black Flame. After a brief appearance, it retreats to the Oilwell Basin. Your task: find and defeat it.
Exit Base Camp and head towards Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin (see map below).

Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examining them reveals the Black Flame's trail, automatically alerting your scoutflies. Follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies in Zone 9, leading to the giant flaming crater where the Black Flame awaits.
The Black Flame (also known as Nu Udra) is a tentacled beast wielding fire-based attacks. Strategically targeting and severing a few tentacles first simplifies the fight, granting easier access to its vulnerable inner points and maximizing material yields.
To counter the region's intense heat, carry several Cool Drinks to prevent continuous health drain.
