Blade Trilogy Writer on MCU Reboot: 'Why the Delay?'

Author : Sebastian Update:May 13,2025

The writer of the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy, David S. Goyer, has expressed his willingness to assist Marvel chief Kevin Feige in reviving Mahershala Ali's stalled MCU reboot of Blade. The project, announced back in 2019 at San Diego Comic Con, has faced numerous delays and setbacks, leading to its removal from Marvel's release schedule just seven months ago. Despite this, Feige remains committed to bringing Blade to the MCU, emphasizing their dedication to the character and Ali's portrayal.

Recent comments from those involved with the project shed light on its troubled journey. Rapper and artist Flying Lotus, who was set to contribute music to the film, confirmed via X/Twitter that the project has fallen through, though he remains hopeful it might resurface. Costume designer Ruth E. Carter, during an appearance on The John Campea Show, revealed she was tasked with designing costumes for a 1920s-set version of the film before it collapsed. Actor Delroy Lindo, who was to star alongside Ali, also shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly, citing a promising yet ultimately derailed project.

Goyer, who penned all three original Blade films and directed Blade: Trinity, expressed his confusion and eagerness to contribute to the reboot, wondering aloud about the delays in an interview with ScreenRant. Despite the setbacks, Feige assured fans in an interview with Omelete in November 2024 that Marvel is still intent on making a Blade movie happen, keeping audiences informed about any changes in direction or scheduling.

Meanwhile, the MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring a cameo by Wesley Snipes as Blade, grossed $1.3 billion globally. Ryan Reynolds, who stars as Deadpool, praised the original Blade films for paving the way for superhero cinema and called for a send-off film for Snipes' character, similar to Hugh Jackman's Logan. Reynolds also hinted at early stages of planning a Deadpool and X-Men ensemble film, where Deadpool would share the spotlight with other characters, as reported by THR.
