Rebel Wolves, a studio established by former CD Projekt RED developers, recently hosted an engaging stream to unveil their debut project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. During the event, they showcased a captivating four-minute cinematic trailer that sets the stage for this dark fantasy action RPG. This trailer not only dazzles with its visuals but also serves as the opening sequence to the game's intriguing storyline.
Set in an alternate version of mid-14th century Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows the journey of a young man named Coen. After the dramatic events shown in the intro, Coen acquires supernatural powers and embarks on a mission to save his loved ones from the clutches of vampires. The urgency of his quest is heightened by a strict deadline—Coen has only 30 days and nights to complete his mission. Time in the game advances during specific gameplay moments, requiring players to manage it meticulously.
Throughout his journey, Coen faces significant moral dilemmas that challenge him to either hold onto his humanity or give in to his dark vampiric instincts. This choice impacts both the gameplay and the unfolding narrative. A key mechanic, known as Blood Hunger, adds another layer of complexity. If Coen goes too long without feeding on blood, he risks losing control, which could lead to the accidental death of an important character and unforeseen consequences.
The game offers players the freedom to explore richly detailed environments, where the time of day plays a crucial role in shaping the experience. Rebel Wolves describes the open world as a "narrative sandbox," providing ample opportunities for player-driven actions and decisions.
The Blood of Dawnwalker has been under development for two years and is being crafted using the powerful Unreal Engine 5. The game is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, although an exact release date has not yet been announced.
