For years, Bloodborne fans have passionately desired a remastered edition of FromSoftware's acclaimed title. Recent Instagram activity has only amplified this anticipation, sparking widespread speculation about a potential release.
Instagram Posts Ignite Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Classic Deserving a Modern Update
Bloodborne, a critically lauded RPG from 2015, enjoys immense popularity. Many players eagerly await the chance to revisit the gothic world of Yharnam on current-generation consoles. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have dramatically increased the fervor surrounding a possible return.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image depicted Djura, a veteran hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others featured the player Hunter exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
Although these posts could simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans across platforms like Twitter (X) are meticulously examining every detail, searching for any hint confirming a long-awaited remaster. The timing feels particularly suggestive, especially considering a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th.
PlayStation Italia's post (translated) asked: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" Numerous comments expressed a strong desire for Yharnam's return, with some fondly recalling favorite locations, and others humorously suggesting the most iconic location would be on PC or modern consoles.
The Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues – Almost a Decade On
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a devoted fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of the greatest video games ever created. Despite this, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans often cite the 2020 remake of Demon's Souls (originally released in 2009) as a precedent for a potential Bloodborne revival. However, this hope is tempered by concerns about the potential wait time. Given Demon's Souls' over-a-decade-long journey to a remake, fans worry Bloodborne might face a similar delay. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the anticipation for a remastered version is reaching fever pitch.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki fueled the speculation further. While not offering concrete confirmation, Miyazaki acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware.
"I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki stated. "However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."
While Miyazaki's comments offer a ray of hope, the ultimate decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's IP remains firmly under Sony's control.
"Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," Miyazaki explained in a similar interview with IGN. "We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it."
Bloodborne's passionate fanbase continues to eagerly await a remake. Despite its critical success and strong sales, Sony hasn't yet expanded its availability beyond the PlayStation 4. Only time will tell if the speculation surrounding a Bloodborne remaster becomes reality.
