The Chinese Room studio has recently unveiled an exciting new development diary for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, packed with fresh gameplay footage. In this latest reveal, the developers showcase how players will engage in the thrilling act of hunting as a vampire within the game's immersive world.
In the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, vampires adhere to the Masquerade, a strict code that requires them to keep their true nature concealed from the unsuspecting human population. This core concept is intricately woven into the gameplay of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 through the use of a Masquerade meter, which monitors actions that could potentially expose the vampire's existence.
When a player breaches the Masquerade, the severity of the violation is reflected by three distinct indicators on the eye icon displayed at the top of the screen:
- Green: Indicates a minor violation. Simply hiding from view is sufficient to mitigate the issue.
- Yellow: Suggests that the player has committed several infractions, perhaps fed on humans, or utilized aggressive powers. In such cases, players must deal with any witnesses or take measures to avoid attracting police attention.
- Red: Signals that the Masquerade has been severely compromised, and the police are actively pursuing the player. At this stage, the best course of action is to flee and find a place to hide. If the meter reaches its maximum, the Camarilla, the governing body of vampires, will intervene, as demonstrated in the gameplay clip below:
To manage their "infamy" and reduce the risk of exposure, players have several strategies at their disposal. They can manipulate witnesses to forget what they've seen or, if necessary, eliminate them. When the police become involved, the most straightforward solution is to hide and wait for the situation to de-escalate.
