Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a good location. Keeping the undead hordes at bay necessitates effective defenses, and barricading windows is a crucial first step. This guide details how to create these essential barriers.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To board up a window, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for increased protection.
Locate these materials in typical places: toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and construction sites are good starting points. Desperate times call for desperate measures—you can also dismantle wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) for planks if necessary. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry compared to unguarded ones. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for them to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove," requiring a claw hammer or crowbar.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective barriers; players and zombies will pass right through them. While these items are unsuitable for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior arrangement.
