Firaxis Games has announced a delay for Civilization 7's (Civ 7) first in-game event to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements. In a February 28, 2025 development roadmap update, they outlined their plans for the next update.

Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025, on PC and consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release), will omit the planned "Natural Wonder Battle" event. Firaxis explained, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with some players expressing dissatisfaction with certain features, particularly the user interface (UI). Firaxis acknowledged this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," and adding, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community feedback and suggestions. While full patch notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis offered a preview:

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for free. Significant UI adjustments will be implemented to address player concerns. The Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions will see substantial changes, with AI leaders receiving improvements to their Cultural Victory strategies.

The first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will also launch alongside the update. Firaxis confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025

The next major update, slated for March 25, 2025 (subject to change), will continue focusing on UI improvements. Firaxis emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Future plans beyond the March updates include adding a "one more turn" feature extending gameplay past the Modern Age, implementing auto-explore, introducing new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancing multiplayer support, and more.

Firaxis concluded, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
