While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news for fans: development on the originals continues!
A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation significantly enhances the games. Improvements extend beyond mere technical fixes. Crucially, support for multiplayer modifications has been added, ensuring compatibility with mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play now features shared item pickups and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized. Finally, the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will boast extensive customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to making the game accessible to all players.
Players will be able to adjust enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other parameters such as game tempo, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton further clarifies that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly to DOOM Eternal.
