A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 has reportedly been shelved, according to hints dropped by Nicholas Kole, a former concept artist at Toys For Bob. This revelation follows Kole's discussion of another canceled project, "Project Dragon," on X (formerly Twitter).
"Project Dragon" and the Unmade Crash 5
On July 12th, Kole's X post regarding "Project Dragon" (a new IP, not Spyro as initially speculated) sparked fan discussion. He added a cryptic comment hinting at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," he stated. This prediction proved accurate, with fans expressing significant disappointment at the news.
The cancellation coincides with Toys For Bob's transition from an Activision Blizzard subsidiary to an independent studio earlier this year, following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their upcoming independent title, details remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending live service in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open, although fans may face a considerable wait.
