Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision to self-publish remains firm, as stated in their recent earnings call and confirmed to Eurogamer. While appreciating their business partners and ongoing collaborations, Pearl Abyss prioritizes independent publishing, believing it will yield greater profitability.
No Official Release Date or Platform Confirmation
Despite speculation, no official release date has been set. Pearl Abyss clarifies that any articles suggesting otherwise are purely conjecture. A playable build will be showcased to media this week in Paris, followed by a public demonstration at G-Star in November.
Previous reports from a September investor meeting indicated Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss’s commitment to self-publishing, driven by projected higher profits, ultimately prevailed.
While the final platform lineup and release date remain unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox launch is anticipated around Q2 2025.
