Funcom, the developer behind Dune: Awakening, has provided an exciting update on the game's business model and post-launch plans. The highly anticipated multiplayer survival game, inspired by Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi novel and its movie adaptations, is set for a "full launch" on May 20, rather than an Early Access release.
Despite being classified as an MMO, Dune: Awakening will not require a subscription. Instead, Funcom plans to enhance the game through free updates, introducing new content and features. The developer will also adhere to a "classic business model" that includes optional downloadable content (DLCs).
Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support, citing their successful history with titles like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions years after their initial launch. "Dune: Awakening will be no exception, and it will continue to expand with free updates bringing new content, features, and enhancements," Funcom stated.
The standard edition of Dune: Awakening is priced at $49.99. For those looking for more, the Deluxe Edition, priced at $69.99, and the Ultimate Edition, at $89.99, offer additional perks. Both editions grant a five-day head start and unique items. The Deluxe and Ultimate Editions include a Season Pass that unlocks four DLCs over time, with the first available at launch.
The Deluxe Edition also includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the elite military force that hunts players in the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all of the above, plus Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, which features building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition of Dune: Awakening rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, as well as the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration that houses the iconic desert mouse.
