Elden Ring is set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement made during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct. While it remains to be seen how this version will compare to those on other platforms, the showcase has confirmed that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will be available to Nintendo fans later this year.
Since its launch in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, amassing over 13 million sales in its first month and reaching nearly 29 million copies sold to date. The game has inspired unique challenges, such as defeating bosses with the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and sparked intense speedrunning competitions. Following its success, the game received the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has shown promising results in early public network tests.
In our comprehensive 10/10 review, IGN praised Elden Ring as "a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a perfect score, with IGN stating, "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."
FromSoftware has yet to disclose a specific release date for the Switch 2 version, nor has it detailed the distinctions of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition from its predecessors. For all the latest announcements from today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, you can find more information right here.
