The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android devices, blending various intriguing elements into a unique gaming experience. Priced at $3.99, this game is developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism. It’s not your typical walking simulator; it's infused with an eerie atmosphere that keeps you on your toes with every step you take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, you find yourself navigating an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. The gameplay traps you in a repetitive loop where everything from the tiles and lights to the posters and the lone man walking towards you seems to endlessly repeat itself.
The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies. These can range from a poster with a different graphic than before, lights flickering unusually, or even something as stark as a river of blood replacing the floor. The game's mechanics hinge on your ability to notice these subtle changes and react quickly.
If you spot something out of the ordinary, you must turn back. If you don't, you should keep moving forward. Your goal is to reach the eighth exit without making any mistakes. This means you need to correctly identify and react to eight anomalies in a row. Fail to do so, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game’s design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms. The setting is modeled after real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo, capturing the essence of claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture.
The Exit 8 encourages active engagement with your environment, urging you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or shifts in reality. The way it challenges your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels distinct and unsettling.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, it took Kotake Create approximately nine months to develop this intriguing title. Following its launch, The Exit 8 amassed an impressive 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
