Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here’s how to access the Deep Woods and where to find Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and use the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines concealing the entrance. Start by placing four items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar at Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can find the first three items between floors 50 and 59. To obtain the Sealing Scroll, team up with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor procure the Sealing Scroll, leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After meeting these requirements, talk to Balor again. He’ll inform you that the scroll will arrive the next day, allowing you to complete the offering.
Typically, breaking magic seals results in a few parting words from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears in his human form, retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover. He asks you to find him there and grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell.
Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines at the Deep Woods entrance. This spell can also uncover other previously inaccessible areas on the map. Equip it from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How To Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods, north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area. Caldarus’ exact location is marked on your map like other NPCs, in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north to the temple where Caldarus awaits.
Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area and visit Caldarus for just 10 Essence, saving time compared to traveling on foot or horseback. You can also interact with Caldarus via his statue in spirit.
