In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hans's main quest, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," requires crafting a Fever Tonic to aid Thomas. This guide details how to obtain the recipe and brew the tonic.
Acquiring the Fever Tonic Recipe:
The recipe resides within the Surgeon's Workshop in Trosky Castle. Access is gained through two methods:
- Stealth: Infiltrate the workshop discreetly.
- Diplomacy: Persuade the chamberlain to grant access by offering to create a digestive potion for his stomach ailment. Success hinges on passing skill checks. Failing these checks necessitates stealing food, bribing a guard, and then sneaking into the kitchen via an alternate route.
If you choose the diplomatic route and deliver the horseshoe as part of the "For Whom the Bell Tolls" quest, speak with Cook Fanka at the forge. Assisting her with a locked chest will lead you to the noble's kitchen and the ailing chamberlain.
Regardless of your entry method, the Surgeon's Workshop contains the physician's journal. Locate and read it to find the Fever Tonic recipe.
Brewing the Fever Tonic:
The necessary ingredients are already present at the surgeon's workstation. Follow these steps:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
- Reduce heat and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
- Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves using the mortar and pestle.
- Add the ground Elderberry Leaves to the cauldron.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Obtain a phial from the bottom-left shelf.
- Distill the tonic using the still.
Multiple attempts may be necessary. Additional herbs are available in a chest within the room.
Completing the Quest:
After brewing the Fever Tonic, locate Thomas. If you gained the chamberlain's trust by providing the digestive potion, return with both potions. Otherwise, use the noble's kitchen to access the chapel and find Thomas and his sister, Adele. Speak with Adele to conclude the quest.
