Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, addresses concerns from PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch Assured
Kitase directly addressed the question of platform exclusivity for Part 3, stating definitively, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the future impact of a potential PS6 remains unclear.
Release Date Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped regarding the release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update during a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview, stating that development is progressing smoothly and on schedule. He confirmed a playable build demonstrating the game's direction was achieved by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed his satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggested PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Considering the release patterns of previous games (one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake on PS4, six-month exclusivity for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5, and a similar timeframe for FF7 Rebirth), a timed PS5 exclusive launch for Part 3 is highly probable before its release on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining sales in its HD title portfolio. In response, the company announced a strategic shift towards a multi-platform approach, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests that while Part 3 will initially launch on PS5, a wider release across multiple platforms is likely to follow.
