Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Website Updates
New Character Profiles
The buzz around a potential FF9 remake intensifies as Square Enix refreshes its 25th anniversary website. The addition of detailed profiles for beloved characters like Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner has sparked renewed speculation among fans.
The launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website earlier this year was the initial trigger for these rumors, which gained momentum when Square Enix shared a poignant quote from Vivi on Twitter.
The latest update features small icons of four of the eight main characters. Clicking these icons reveals new art by FF9's character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, along with brief summaries of each character’s role and aspirations in the story.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the meticulous attention to detail in these updates has led fans to believe that a major announcement about an FF9 remake may be on the horizon. Until then, enthusiasts eagerly await further news.
New Merch Available
Square Enix has also expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise lineup for FF9. New items include Garnet’s necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, and a set of acrylic standees.
Garnet's Silver Necklace is now available for pre-order, with a release date set for November 15, priced at around 38,500 yen ($260). Vivi’s hat, a faithful replica that fans can wear, is also up for reservation, with an expected release on September 6, costing approximately 17,600 yen ($120).
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection offers eight unique designs, packaged in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for collectors.
With such comprehensive preparations and the release of themed merchandise, the anticipation for an FF9 remake feels more tangible than ever. Despite Square Enix's silence on the matter, the hope among fans for a reimagined journey through Gaia remains strong.
