The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, a controversy quickly arose concerning the Matte Black style, previously exclusive to Xbox Series S|X players.
Initially advertised as permanently obtainable, Epic Games' sudden announcement of its discontinuation sparked considerable backlash. Some players even threatened legal action, citing potential violations of consumer protection laws.
Fortunately, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome, especially given the holiday season. A less conciliatory approach could have significantly soured the festive cheer for many players.
