The developers of Civilization 7 have hinted at the possible return of Gandhi, one of the franchise's iconic leaders, but as a downloadable content (DLC) addition. Dive in to discover why Firaxis Games opted to exclude Gandhi from the initial lineup of leaders in the game.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Leaders
Fans of Gandhi can hold onto hope for his return to Civilization 7. This possibility was revealed in an IGN interview with Civ 7 lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025. While Gandhi's inclusion might not be immediate, it could be part of future DLC.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision to exclude certain civilizations and leaders from Civ 7. "So, I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. "Certainly civilizations, there's a lot of concern right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"
The decision to leave out Britain and India from the initial roster of Civ 7 was a strategic one, according to Beach. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," he explained. "So things are getting left behind, but we always are looking at the big picture, when we're going to bring leaders or civs into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive list of DLCs released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civ 7. However, the exact timing of this beloved leader's return is still up in the air.
