Keep Your Guard Up
Xu Wu stands out as a highly agile boss within Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements can be particularly frustrating, especially due to its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, its black skin complicates identifying its front. The monster's multiple arms pose a significant threat, and it occasionally slips into walls, disappearing momentarily. It often reemerges from the ceiling, attempting to drop down on you. This maneuver is limited to its nest, so heightened awareness is crucial in this area.
Use Ice Attacks
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Xu Wu is notably vulnerable to Ice attacks. Consider using Ice ammo if you're a ranged fighter, or equip melee weapons with gear that inflicts Ice elemental damage. Enhancing your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to gain the Ice Attack skill is advisable. Carrying a Frost Pod is also beneficial for dealing additional Ice damage.
Avoid the Grab Attack
Xu Wu employs a variety of attacks, including a dangerous grab move in Monster Hunter Wilds. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons. You have roughly two seconds to break free, and using your slinger, particularly with Frost Pods, is the most effective way to escape.
Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth
The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable spot, though it's concealed beneath its body. You'll typically only see it when the monster lunges at you. A well-timed, powerful attack during this moment can cause substantial damage and potentially break its mouth, yielding Xu Wu's fang. If targeting the mouth proves challenging, the head is another viable target, boasting a 4-star weakness to blunt and cut damage and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.
Use Poison
Xu Wu exhibits a 3-star weakness to Poison, making it an effective strategy to inflict this status ailment. A bow with Poison Coating is particularly useful for this purpose. While other status ailments can be applied, Sleep is less effective against this monster.

Using meat as bait can be helpful, or you can position yourself as bait to lure the monster into the trap. Quickly follow up by shooting a tranquilizer at Xu Wu to prevent its escape. You have only a brief window to act before it breaks free.
