The Pokemon Company shattered the existing record in the Guinness World Record's longest unboxing livestream category on November 26, 2024. This marathon livestream celebrated the release of the latest Pokemon TCG expansion, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks.
The event showcased well-known internet personalities including Serebii’s webmaster Joe Merrick, along with social media influencers PokeGirl Ranch and Mayplaystv. Broadcasted live on Pokemon's Twitch channel for over 24 hours, these content creators opened 1,500 booster packs and unveiled various other Pokemon products. By the end of the marathon, they had amassed over 20,000 cards, as reported by Pokemon's Official Press website.
Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokemon Company International, expressed immense pride in this achievement, stating, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators.”
While the livestream has concluded, Pokemon fans can anticipate more excitement. According to the Pokemon's Official Press website, fans should "keep their eyes peeled for further product giveaways on content creators' channels in the next two weeks."
The cards gathered during the livestream will be organized into binders and donated to charities ahead of the holidays, including Barnardo’s in the UK.

Launched on November 8, 2024, the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion transports fans to the Terarium, a key location from Pokemon SV's The Indigo Disk: DLC Part 2. This set introduces Stellar Tera Pokemon ex, featuring powerhouses like Archaludon ex, known for its ultimate defensive skill, Metal Defender.
The expansion also highlights iconic dragon-type Pokemon including Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. For a tropical flair, the set includes illustration rare and special illustration rare cards such as Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, capturing the essence of "calming ocean waves and a balmy breeze."
