Harrison Ford, the iconic Indiana Jones, has praised Troy Baker's performance as the famed adventurer in the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, stating that it proves "you don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul."
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford expressed his satisfaction with Baker's portrayal, emphasizing the talent and creativity involved. He declared, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it."
Released in December, The Great Circle offers an "authentic," albeit potentially non-canonical, addition to the Indiana Jones franchise. This contrasts with the less-well-received 2023 film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The game's positive reception might influence future franchise decisions, potentially favoring video game adaptations over further film installments featuring Ford.
Ford joins a growing chorus of creatives voicing concerns about AI in entertainment. Tim Burton has described AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage considers it a "dead end." The sentiment extends to voice actors, with Grand Theft Auto 5's Ned Luke protesting a chatbot using his voice, and The Witcher's Doug Cockle acknowledging AI's inevitability but highlighting its "dangerous" potential to deprive voice actors of income.
