Exciting news for fans of the iconic adventurer: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, developed by MachineGames and published by Xbox's Bethesda, is set to expand its horizons beyond Xbox Series X/S and PC. According to recent reports, a PlayStation 5 version of the game is slated for release in the first half of 2025, following its initial launch on Xbox and PC during the 2024 holiday season.
Insider and Reports Claim a 2025 PS5 Release for Indiana Jones
Industry insider Nate the Hate, known for his accurate insights into Microsoft's multi-platform strategies, has shared that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be a timed console exclusive for Xbox during the 2024 holiday season. Following this exclusivity period, the game is expected to make its way to the PS5 in early 2025. This information was echoed by Insider Gaming, which confirmed that several media outlets have been briefed under non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
"MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will release on Xbox & PC this holiday (Dec) as a timed console exclusive. After this timed-exclusive window expires, Indiana Jones & the Great Circle is planned to come to PlayStation 5 in the first half of 2025," Nate the Hate stated on Twitter (X).
Xbox Could Expand Major Releases to PlayStation
This move aligns with previous speculations about Microsoft and Xbox's evolving approach to platform exclusivity. Earlier reports from The Verge suggested that Bethesda and Microsoft were contemplating bringing major Xbox titles, including Indiana Jones and Starfield, to other platforms. Despite securing exclusivity for these titles post-acquisition, Microsoft appears open to sharing select flagship games with competitors like PlayStation.
This strategy is not new for Xbox, as titles like Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Grounded have already been released on rival platforms under the "Xbox Everywhere" initiative. There seems to be no strict "red line" preventing future Xbox first-party games from launching on PlayStation.
Fans eager for more details on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle should mark their calendars for Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the event promises a deeper dive into the game and may reveal its official release date. Alongside Indiana Jones, other major titles like COD: Black Ops 6, MH Wilds, Civ 7, Marvel Rivals, and Dune: Awakening are also expected to be showcased.
