The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is set to excite gamers with its unique pricing strategy across different regions. The console will be available in two distinct versions, each tailored to meet specific market needs and preferences.
Switch 2 Pricing: A Closer Look
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be offered at a notably lower price than its global counterpart. The Japanese-language system, exclusive to Japan, will retail at approximately $330. In contrast, the Multi-Language System version, available worldwide, will be priced at $449.99. This significant price difference, exceeding $100, reflects the current economic conditions, particularly the weaker yen against the USD, which may impact tourist purchasing behavior in Japan.
Japanese consumers will have the option to purchase either version, but the Japanese-language system is exclusively available to those with a Nintendo Account set to Japan. This version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop. For those looking to enjoy the Switch 2 in multiple languages, Nintendo recommends opting for the Multi-Language System version. More detailed information about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Acquiring the Nintendo Switch 2: The Lottery System
To secure a Nintendo Switch 2, potential buyers in Japan will need to participate in a lottery system facilitated by the My Nintendo Store. Starting April 24, retailers and online shops across Japan will also begin accepting reservations or lottery entries, subject to availability. To enter the lottery at the My Nintendo Store, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- By February 28, 2025, you must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software, excluding demo and free software.
- At the time of application, you must have been a subscriber to Nintendo Switch Online for a cumulative period of at least one year.
Further details on how to apply for the lottery will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
