Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality from the planet Czarnia, is the last of his kind, much like Superman. The character was first introduced by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 back in 1983.
Momoa's enthusiasm for the role is palpable, having expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character. He pointed out aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, indicating a personal connection to the character. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about portraying Lobo, hinting at a faithful adaptation of the character's rough and gruff demeanor. He also teased the appearance of Lobo's iconic bike, promising fans a visually accurate portrayal.
While Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is centered around Supergirl, Momoa mentioned that Lobo's appearance will be brief but impactful. The film, directed by James Gunn and featuring Milly Alcock as Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), is based on the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Supergirl's father, and Emily Beecham as her mother.
The anticipation for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is high, especially following the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl shared by James Gunn on Bluesky. The film is the second installment in the new DCU, following Gunn's Superman, set to premiere this summer, and preceding the DCU Clayface movie in September 2026.
