Resident Evil's Mikami and Killer7's Suda51 Hint at a Possible Sequel and Remaster
During a recent Grasshopper Direct presentation focused on the upcoming Shadows of the Damned remaster, Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil creator) and Goichi "Suda51" Suda (Killer7 creator) sparked excitement among fans by discussing the potential for both a Killer7 sequel and a complete edition of the cult classic.
Killer7: A New Chapter or a Definitive Edition?
Mikami openly expressed his desire for a Killer7 sequel, calling the original one of his personal favorites. Suda51, while not committing to a firm timeline, echoed this sentiment, suggesting potential sequel titles like "Killer11" or "Killer7: Beyond."
The 2005 action-adventure title, Killer7, is known for its unique blend of horror, mystery, and over-the-top violence, characteristic of Suda51's style. The game follows Harman Smith, a man with seven distinct personalities, each wielding unique abilities and weaponry. Despite its cult following, a sequel has remained elusive. Even after a 2018 PC remaster, Suda51 expressed interest in revisiting the original vision, suggesting a "Complete Edition" that would restore extensive cut dialogue for the character Coyote. Mikami playfully countered that this idea was "lame," though the team acknowledged the potential for such an enhanced release.
The possibility of a sequel or a complete edition has generated significant buzz within the gaming community. While no official announcements have been made, the developers' enthusiasm has ignited considerable anticipation for the future of Killer7. The ultimate decision, as Suda51 stated, rests on whether a "Killer7: Beyond" or a Complete Edition will take precedence.
