The popular MMO, Second Life, launches its public beta on iOS and Android. Premium subscribers can access it immediately. However, free access for non-subscribers hasn't been announced yet.
Second Life, the social MMO recently announced for mobile, is now available in public beta for iOS and Android devices. Download it from the App Store and Google Play.
A Premium account is still required for access. This beta release, however, should significantly increase the flow of information about the mobile version of this established MMO.
For those unfamiliar, Second Life, a precursor to the metaverse concept, is an MMO emphasizing social interaction rather than combat or exploration. Players create and live as personalized avatars, engaging in various activities. Launched in 2003, Second Life pioneered concepts like social gaming and user-generated content.
Is it too late for Second Life?
Second Life's success is undeniable, but its age and subscription model, coupled with competition from games like Roblox, raise questions about its continued relevance. While a pioneer in its field, its future success remains uncertain. The mobile release may revitalize it, or it may prove to be a last-ditch effort. Time will tell.
