Tidepool Games has released an exciting new fast-paced pixel art game on Android called MageTrain, which draws heavy inspiration from the beloved Nimble Quest. If you're a fan of that classic, you'll feel right at home with MageTrain.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain is a thrilling blend of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes. Imagine controlling a line of heroes that trail behind you like a snake, each automatically attacking as you navigate through an arena. Your task is to strategically manage their positions, deciding who leads and who follows, as their abilities vary based on their placement in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one quirky character who throws birds. Each hero comes with distinct skills that change depending on their role within the group. You'll journey through eight different dungeons, face off against 28 enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to bolster your chances of success.
The roguelike structure ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate branching paths, make crucial upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as possible. Much like in Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress; every mistake means starting over. Check out the trailer below to get a feel for the action:
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
What keeps MageTrain engaging is the constant improvement you experience with each run, even in defeat. You learn when to play defensively, when to go all-out offensively, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds. This game is now available on Android and is free to play, so don't miss out—check it out on the Google Play Store.
