One of the most thrilling trading card crossovers in recent years is nearly upon us: Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy is set to launch on June 13, 2025. The only set still readily available from major retailers is the Starter Kit, which is back in stock and available for preorder at Amazon for $19.87. UK readers can secure it for £15.99. With other sets sold out and some singles fetching over $500, it's wise to secure your preorder swiftly before they disappear faster than a Chocobo on the run.

The anticipation for this set has been building since its announcement, further amplified by a new trailer that has fans buzzing with excitement. The singles market reflects this enthusiasm, with the borderless version of Cloud, Midgar Mercenary, currently priced at $147.23, and the Surge Foil version commanding an impressive $599, making it the priciest card in the entire Final Fantasy set.
If you've already secured your preorder or are on the hunt for rare singles, there are several standout cards to watch in the coming weeks. The stunning borderless Kefka, Court Mage, showcased in the new MTG teaser trailer from PAX East, features artwork by the legendary Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano.

TCG Player is an excellent resource for acquiring a wide range of single cards, allowing you to enhance your deck without relying on luck from booster packs. It's also a valuable tool for assessing the value of your cards once the new set is released. If you manage to pull any Surge Foil cards from your booster pack preorders, you could find yourself with a significant asset. However, keep in mind that card prices fluctuate, so some may change in value as the release date approaches.
Other notable cards to watch for when opening boosters or considering standalone purchases include the Cloud, Ex-Soldier Commander card, currently priced at $45.99. This card's popularity stems from its ability to equip other creatures on the field easily. The full-art version of Yuffie Kisaragi - Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow, is also noteworthy, priced just under $100 due to its utility as a Commander and its rarity, especially with its classic late '90s Final Fantasy VII art style.
The most expensive cards are the special editions, such as the $599 Cloud, Midgar Mercenary Surge Foil, and the borderless Traveling Chocobo, which costs $169.98, while its standard version is still pricey at $114.97. The Traveling Chocobo cards even had their own teaser trailer featuring a limited edition Gold Chocobo.
While the rarest cards can be costly, TCG Player also offers more affordable singles, such as Sazh's Chocobo for $1.96, Tonberry for $2.49, the useful Summon: Shiva for $1.56, and Gladiolus Amicitia for just 33 cents.
Moreover, TCG Player is hosting preorders for select Final Fantasy booster sets, albeit at prices above MSRP. Options include a nine-booster Final Fantasy bundle (plus bonus cards) for $87.99 and a 30-pack Play Booster Display box for $164.99, both plus shipping, which are around $20-$30 above MSRP. Single sealed boosters are also available for $7.99 each plus shipping.

Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy Starter Kit
For those preordering the Starter Kit, it's important to note that each deck is preconstructed and does not include boosters to open, meaning no surprise $600 cards. Instead, it includes one traditional foil legendary creature, five brand-new non-foil cards debuting in Magic, and 54 cards from the main set. The kit also comes with four non-foil double-sided tokens, two MTG Arena code cards (one per deck), and two deck boxes, offering substantial value for the $20 price tag.
For new Magic: The Gathering players, the Arena code cards are particularly beneficial. You can redeem both decks to play online, allowing you to learn the game at your own pace through AI matches or competitive play.
