Street Fighter 6 welcomes a new fighter, reigniting player interest. The addition of Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury franchise has significantly boosted the game's popularity.
Capcom's Street Fighter 6, a resounding success, had sold 4.4 million copies by December 31, 2024. While some fans felt the game lacked frequent content updates, the introduction of Mai Shiranui has proven a welcome addition.
Mai Shiranui, the third character in the second season's roster, has dramatically increased Street Fighter 6's player base. Steam's peak concurrent players surged past 63,000 on her release day—a substantial increase from the previous peak of 24-27,000 and the best result since May 2024.
Access to Mai is granted through the Battle Pass. World Tour mode allows players to cultivate a relationship with Mai, learn her moves, and subsequently test them in Battle Hub. A second costume, drawing inspiration from her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, has also been released.
A temporary addition to Battle Hub is Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer. Players can experience his unique gameplay until March 10th. The update also includes new Master League ranks and associated rewards.
Capcom showcased Mai's fighting style in a dedicated trailer.
