Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled an exciting roadmap to keep the game vibrant and engaging. Starting from Season 3, the game will see the introduction of new heroes on a monthly basis, shifting from the previous schedule of two heroes per season. This change aims to keep the gameplay "as fresh as its launch," according to NetEase. In a recent Dev Vision Vol. 05 presentation on April 4, Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong shared these updates along with plans to shorten each season from three months to two.
Guangguang elaborated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month." This ambitious plan was partly influenced by community feedback on social media, pushing the team to maintain the game's excitement level since its December launch. The developers are also exploring the addition of new game modes to further enhance the experience, potentially leading to up to 12 new heroes being added annually.
Despite the challenge of balancing these frequent hero releases, Guangguang highlighted the team's approach in an interview with PC Gamer on March 14. He stressed the importance of using key metric data from all game modes, including pick rates, win rates, and ability stats, to ensure fair and enjoyable gameplay. "This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts," he stated.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, introduces Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds. She joins the game as a Vanguard, inviting other Marvel Heroes to the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa for a lavish celebration. The season trailer showcased new formal attire skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, inspired by Marvel’s Hellfire Club, an elite social club with global influence.
Following Emma Frost's debut, Season 2.5 will feature the iconic villain Ultron. The Hellfire Gala trailer hints at Ultron's robots crashing the party, setting the stage for the Age of Ultron. However, further details about Ultron's role in the game are yet to be disclosed.
