Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will mark the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, with its final day set for May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a blog post on its website, confirming that while Season 5 will kick off on February 4, 2025, it will be the game's last hurrah. Following this date, online play will cease, but players can continue to enjoy all earned and purchased content offline via local gameplay and training modes.
In a heartfelt message, the MultiVersus team expressed their gratitude: "Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

As of today, real-money transactions for MultiVersus have been discontinued, although players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to unlock in-game content until the end of support on May 30. At this time, MultiVersus will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
The decision to end MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery labeled the project a significant failure. In a November financial call, the company reported that MultiVersus fell short of expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in losses, following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Just last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be leaving the company after a challenging 2024.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” said chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.
Despite the game's closure coming just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to end on a high note. Alongside the typical seasonal updates, new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the roster. Lola Bunny can be unlocked as a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, starting next week.
