Nexus Mods, a popular platform for game modifications, finds itself at the center of a heated controversy after removing over 500 mods in a single month. The removal of two mods for Marvel Rivals, specifically those replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, ignited a firestorm of debate.
Nexus Mods' owner, TheDarkOne, clarified the situation on Reddit, stating that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. TheDarkOne's statement, highlighting the simultaneous removal, aimed to address potential claims of favoritism. However, this explanation hasn't quelled the outrage.
TheDarkOne further revealed a disturbing consequence of the removals: a barrage of threats and hateful messages directed at the platform. The owner reported receiving death threats and accusations of pedophilia, highlighting the intense negativity surrounding the situation.
This isn't the first time Nexus Mods has faced backlash for mod removals. A previous incident in 2022 involved the removal of a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. At the time, the platform's stance on inclusivity and its commitment to removing content deemed discriminatory was publicly affirmed.
TheDarkOne concluded by expressing a lack of tolerance for those who oppose the platform's policies, effectively signaling a firm stance against future similar controversies.
