Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their enhanced Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than other titles.
For instance, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrade packs for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). This edition also boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.
Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available, possibly due to uncertainties with President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade follows suit at the same price, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for both.
This $20 upgrade fee could be attributed to the substantial $80 price tag for the full versions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. Both original Switch versions are priced at $59.99, making the Switch 2 editions $20 more expensive.
For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, there is no such offer for upgrading Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree at the time of writing.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was exceptionally high, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed.
