"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls Enhance Home Menu Navigation"

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new level of interactivity to the console's interface. Since the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled, the gaming community has been abuzz with speculation about the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, we received the much-anticipated confirmation that the Joy-Con can indeed function in "mouse mode." This feature allows players to glide the controllers over surfaces, using the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Additionally, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at once, one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for a versatile gaming experience.

Now, even more details have emerged, showcased on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter. The Joy-Con 2's mouse controls are not only limited to games but can also be used to navigate the Home menu on the Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on the screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface like a table and move it as instructed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo further explained, adding that these mouse controls are functional on the Home menu and in compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While it's unclear exactly how many games will support this feature, Nintendo has demonstrated its compatibility with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders for the console began on April 24, with the price set at $449.99. The pre-order phase was a resounding success, as expected. For more information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
