During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly their entire Nintendo Switch game catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, several beloved titles are receiving upgraded "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with unique enhancements. This includes games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts distinct upgrades. The first showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a feature called "Jamboree TV." This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble effects, and innovative gameplay facilitated by a new camera accessory.
Following that, we saw enhancements for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will feature improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. These games will also benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app named Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to help locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations from Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 called Star-Crossed World, in addition to enhanced graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also getting enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, run at 4K resolution with 60fps, and feature HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see improvements in resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing owners of the original Switch versions to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Later in the presentation, several third-party games were announced to receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo sparked curiosity about these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week when a webpage mentioned them in a footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that such games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
