Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Amid High Demand

Author : Christopher Update:Jun 20,2025

Nintendo has issued a clear warning to U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the June 5 launch of the Nintendo Switch 2: release-day delivery cannot be guaranteed. This announcement follows earlier concerns about limited availability in Japan, where demand far outstripped supply.

On its official website, Nintendo updated customers who registered interest in purchasing the console through My Nintendo Store. Due to high demand and limited inventory, the company stated it may not be able to deliver units by the official launch date. As a result, invitation emails for eligible buyers could arrive *after* June 5. However, once a purchase is finalized, Nintendo will confirm an exact shipping date.

“Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store,” Nintendo’s statement read. “We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

The message implies that those hoping to receive their Switch 2 on day one may need to look beyond Nintendo’s own store. The company now suggests that pre-ordering through third-party retailers could offer a better chance of securing the console at launch—though even that path is proving difficult, as many retailers have already sold out.

“If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above,” the statement said, linking to GameStop—where the console is currently unavailable.

For those still waiting for an invite from My Nintendo Store, no further action is needed. If selected, an invitation will arrive when more stock becomes available.

This latest update reinforces what many fans already suspected—the Nintendo Switch 2 will be extremely difficult to obtain during the launch window. Earlier this week, Nintendo issued a similar warning to Japanese customers, noting that a large number would miss out due to overwhelming demand.

In a public statement shared via X / Twitter, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that over 2.2 million people in Japan alone had applied for a direct pre-order through My Nintendo Store. That number “far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5,” he explained.

According to [ttpp], the first batch of U.S. invitations will begin going out starting May 8, 2025. Additional waves will follow periodically until the console becomes available for general purchase.

Initial invites will be sent to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria, including:

  • Purchasing any Nintendo Switch Online membership
  • Maintaining a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months
  • Opting in to share gameplay data with Nintendo
  • Accumulating at least 50 hours of total gameplay time

Once an invitation is received, buyers have 72 hours to complete their purchase before the offer expires.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that U.S. pre-orders began on April 24, 2025, and that both the standard Nintendo Switch 2 ($449.99) and the June 5 launch date remain unchanged. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also be available at $499.99, with digital and physical versions of Mario Kart World priced at $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99. However, due to ongoing tariff pressures, the cost of some accessories has increased.

Originally set for a April 9 pre-order launch, Nintendo delayed the start date to assess how tariffs and shifting market conditions might impact production and pricing.
