Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. Read on for details and the fan reaction to this unfortunate news.
Omori's Physical Release Cancellation in Europe
A String of Delays Leads to Cancellation
Meridiem Games revealed the cancellation via a Twitter (X) post. While a user inquired about specific localization problems, the publisher declined to offer further details beyond the initial announcement.
Fans have pointed out the game's troubled release history. Initially listed for a March 2023 European release on platforms like Amazon, the physical version faced multiple delays, first to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally a January 2025 postponement. Pre-orders were subsequently canceled. These repeated setbacks ultimately resulted in the cancellation.
This news is a significant disappointment for fans, particularly as it would have marked the first official release of Omori in Spanish and other European languages. European players can still obtain physical copies, but only through importing the US version.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy coping with trauma. The game blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
