Disney has revealed that its upcoming Cars-themed land at Walt Disney World will be named Piston Peak National Park, marking what the company calls "the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom's history."
Construction Begins This Summer
According to the Disney Parks Blog, construction on Piston Peak National Park will commence this summer. As a result, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will temporarily close starting July 7.
An Immersive Wilderness Experience
Disney has shared exciting details about this new addition to Frontierland, describing it as:
"Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness with towering trees, snow-capped mountains, stunning waterfalls, rushing rivers, and dramatic geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak draws inspiration from the Rocky Mountains and iconic American frontier landscapes found in national parks."
The land will feature several points of interest from Disney•Pixar's Cars universe, including a Visitor Lodge, Ranger HQ, and scenic trails. Disney Imagineers are employing authentic "Parkitecture" - a design style originally developed by the National Park Service to create structures that blend seamlessly with nature.
Seamless Integration
The area will maintain visual cohesion with surrounding lands through natural tree barriers. Plans include "rugged mountain peaks along a tranquil waterway near Grizzly Hall" and geyser displays that extend from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad into the off-road rally trails.

Two New Rides Coming
First announced at D23 2024, the Cars land will feature two new attractions. The first is an exhilarating rally race through mountainous terrain where guests will "navigate mountain trails, avoid erupting geysers, and splash through mud puddles (a favorite of Mater's!)" The second attraction is designed as a family-friendly experience suitable for all ages.
At SXSW 2025, Disney Parks showcased innovative ride vehicles being developed specifically for the rally race. Each car features a unique personality, name, and number to stay true to the Cars franchise.
Part of Larger Expansion Plans
Piston Peak National Park represents just one component of Magic Kingdom's ambitious expansion. Future plans include the park's first-ever Villains-themed land. In the near term, guests can anticipate the debut of the Disney Starlight nighttime parade on July 20 as part of Cool Kid Summer, followed by The Beak and Barrel - a Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired tavern opening later this year.
