Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia For Pokémon Behaviors and Ecology
Launches in Japan in June 2025
The Pokémon Company, in partnership with the esteemed Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan, is set to release an enthralling official encyclopedia dedicated to Pokémon behaviors and ecology. Shogakukan made the announcement on their website on April 21, confirming that Pokécology will hit the shelves on June 18, 2025, in Japan.
Pre-orders are now open at bookstores throughout Japan. The encyclopedia is priced at 1,430 yen, including tax. While there hasn't been an official statement about a global release, given Pokémon's widespread appeal, fans worldwide can anticipate an English version to become available in the near future.
Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia
This official Pokémon encyclopedia dives deep into the ecology of these beloved creatures, offering a comprehensive look at their diet, sleep patterns, physical characteristics, and their interactions within their environments and with other Pokémon.
Pokécology is crafted by a team of distinguished veterinary behaviorists and ecology experts from the University of Tokyo. Leading the project is ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, who spearheaded the research into the behaviors of wild Pokémon. The book's visual appeal is enhanced by the artwork of Chihiro Kino, an acclaimed illustrator known for her work on various animal ecology publications.
While Pokémon has previously published numerous hardcover books detailing stats, battle strategies, and game guides, this marks their first venture into exploring the biology and ecology of Pokémon. This unique focus makes Pokécology an essential resource for fans, particularly children, looking to deepen their understanding of these iconic creatures.
