New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis
Dell unveiled the new Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The chassis retains a design similar to the 2024 R16 system but includes minor aesthetic and cooling enhancements along with updated components. The I/O panel is now located at the top of the case, and the tempered glass window covers the entire side panel. This design change eliminates side panel vents in favor of air intakes at the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow design for a cleaner interior. The internal components have been refreshed, featuring a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest CPUs and RTX 50 series GPUs.

Boutique PC Retailers with Built-to-Order RTX 50XX Systems
Several retailers now offer the option to customize and order systems with RTX 5090 and/or 5080 GPUs. This feature is available at iBuyPower, Origin PC, Maingear, Starforge Systems, NZXT, and Digital Storm. While these built-to-order systems provide flexibility, they tend to be more expensive and less cost-effective than prebuilt options.
Dell (Alienware), HP, and Lenovo Prebuilt PCs Coming Later
The major OEM computer retailers, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, will not launch their prebuilt gaming desktops with RTX 50-series GPUs until later in the year. Dell showcased the Alienware Area 51 at CES 2025, expected to include Nvidia's new GPUs by the end of the first quarter. HP plans to offer the RTX 5090 and 5080 options on its flagship Omen 45L, likely in mid to late February. Lenovo has not yet announced when it will start incorporating the new GPUs into its Legion Tower gaming desktops.

Nvidia officially announced the 50-series GPUs at CES 2025, emphasizing enhanced AI features over traditional raster performance. DLSS 4 technology is said to quadruple frame rates with minimal visual compromise. While these new GPUs offer a modest performance increase, opinions vary on their value compared to the RTX 40-series.
In our review of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE, Jackie Thomas noted, "The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, albeit with a smaller generational uplift than expected. In non-AI gaming, the performance gain is modest, but DLSS 4 significantly enhances performance in supported games, with 75% of frames generated by AI."
Similarly, in our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie stated, "For gamers with recent high-end cards, the RTX 5080 might not offer significant benefits over the RTX 4080. However, it does provide substantial performance improvements for those upgrading from older GPUs, especially when leveraging Nvidia's AI enhancements like DLSS 4."
