During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works unveiled an official gameplay trailer, showcasing the game's captivating mechanics. The trailer features a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab, highlighting Ratatan’s innovative blend of rhythm roguelike action. Players can experience the excitement of rhythm games combined with side-scrolling action, with the added thrill of online co-op gameplay supporting up to 4 players. The game also promises massive melee battles with up to 100 characters.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring the musical talents of Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has already made significant strides. Its Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its release on various platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the game's producer, shared insights into the upcoming milestones and events. Ratatan has now surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game won't be available during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta test to deliver an improved demo for the Steam Next festival in June.
Sakajiri provided details on what to expect during the closed beta. The initial build will include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added throughout the month-long test period. Information regarding the distribution of codes, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, although an exact release date has yet to be announced.
