Robert Eggers, acclaimed for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will not only direct but also co-write the screenplay with his collaborator from The Northman, Sjón. This new project follows a previous attempt at a sequel that had Scott Derrickson, known for Sinister, attached but stalled without updates since 2023. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now entrusted Eggers to bring a fresh vision to the world of Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy, which originally starred David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly as the protagonist on a quest to rescue her kidnapped baby brother amidst a fantastical realm filled with Henson's iconic puppets.
In addition to the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also gearing up for another intriguing project titled Werwulf, a werewolf movie slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English, promising an authentic historical setting where, presumably, a transformation into a wolf monster will play a central role.
Eggers' recent work, Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th century Germany, it follows a young real estate agent's harrowing journey to Transylvania to sell a castle to a mysterious count, leading to terrifying vampiric nightmares that engulf his life and that of his wife, Ellen.
