Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked specifications suggest Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card will pack a hefty 32GB of GDDR7 video memory and demand a substantial 575W power supply. This powerhouse GPU, part of the Blackwell generation, will be officially unveiled at Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics cards, arriving over two years after the RTX 40 series launch. Building on its predecessors, the RTX 50 series will leverage Tensor Cores for AI processing, incorporate DLSS upscaling and ray tracing, and support PCIe 5.0 on compatible motherboards. This new lineup will succeed the RTX 40 series (some models of which, like the RTX 4090D and 4070, have been discontinued) and compete directly with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Inno3D's iChill X3 RTX 5090 Preview
Ahead of the official reveal, details about the RTX 5090 emerged from Inno3D, one of Nvidia's AIB partners. Images of the Inno3D iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots, confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory – double the expected capacity of the RTX 5070 Ti. The card's packaging also revealed the 575W power draw, a significant jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
High Performance, High Price
The RTX 5090's impressive specifications will likely come at a premium. Industry speculation points to an MSRP starting at $1,999 or higher. While Nvidia remains tight-lipped on pricing, the high power requirements and memory capacity suggest a significant investment for consumers. The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be readily available.
Other RTX 50 Series Cards
Nvidia will also announce the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti alongside the RTX 5090 during their CES keynote on January 6th at 9:30 PM Eastern. The upcoming generation promises significant advancements, but the market reception remains to be seen.
